چکیده

Lighting design is a fundamental aspect of computer cinematography, where it is used to support storytelling by affecting the mood, style, and believability of a scene. Traditionally, lighting has required the tedious adjustment of the large set of parameters that describe complex lighting setups, including lights positions, colors, shapes, etc. This work presents an interactive user interface that facilitates lighting workflow by using a sketching paradigm for light creation. Lights are specified by a series of strokes that define various properties of illumination such as shape of the light and position of illuminated and shadowed areas. The system will then perform a nonlinear optimization over all the light parameters to find a match to the controlling sketches. To demonstrate our prototype system, we lit a simple scene fully with our application, showing that sketching paradigms are promising to facilitate the lighting workflow.

MarrNet: 3D Shape Reconstruction via 2.5D Sketches

3D object reconstruction from a single image is a highly under-determined problem, requiring strong prior knowledge of plausible 3D shapes. This introduces challenges for learning-based approaches, as 3D object annotations are scarce in real images. Previous work chose to train on synthetic data with ground truth 3D information, but suffered from domain adaptation when tested on real data. In t...

Tangible business model sketches to support participatory innovation

This paper introduces the notion of “tangible business model sketches” – interactive sculpture-like mechanisms – to stimulate discussions concerning how businesses create and capture value. We outline the need for opening up discussions around innovation that these models address and their proposed utility for designers. We present three examples that model aspects of lighting design, audiology...

Face Recognition from Sketches Using Advanced Correlation Filters Using Hybrid Eigenanalysis for Face Synthesis

Most face recognition systems focus on photo-based (or video) face recognition, but there are many lawenforcement applications where a police sketch artist composes a face sketch of the criminal and that is used by the officers to look for the criminal. Currently state-of-the-art research approach transforms all test face images into sketches then perform recognition in the sketch domain using ...

Interpreting Physical Sketches as Architectural Models

We present an algorithm for the automatic interpretation of a rough architectural sketch as a consistent 3D digital model. We compare our results to the designer’s intended geometry. We further validate the algorithm by studying the variations in possible interpretations made by other humans for a set of relatively ambiguous sketches. In our system, the user sketches an architectural design by ...

Depicting shape, materials and lighting: observation, formulation and implementation of artistic principles

The appearance of a scene results from complex interactions between the geometry, materials and lights that compose that scene. While Computer Graphics algorithms are now capable of simulating these interactions, it comes at the cost of tedious 3D modeling of a virtual scene, which only well-trained artists can do. In contrast, photographs allow the instantaneous capture of a scene, but shape, ...
